Speaker of the Milli Majlis meets with President of the Australian Senate on the margins of the G20 Speakers’ Summit
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, held a meeting with the President of the Australian Senate, Sue Lines, on the margins of the 11th G20 Speakers’ Summit held in Cape Town, South Africa.
During the meeting, the sides held a comprehensive exchange of views on the current state and future prospects of cooperation between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Australia. The importance of reciprocal visits, the activities of parliamentary friendship groups, and enhanced cooperation within international parliamentary platforms was underscored.
The role of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting interstate relations was highlighted, with both sides noting that closer dialogue between legislative bodies contributes to the deepening of bilateral ties and mutual understanding.
The discussion also covered the role of parliaments within the G20 framework in addressing global challenges, as well as issues related to sustainable development, international cooperation, and the promotion of multilateral dialogue.
Both sides expressed confidence that continued contacts of this nature would further strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation between Azerbaijan and Australia.
