COP29 Presidency Launches Baku Global Climate Transparency Platform with International Participation

Baku, Azerbaijan – In a significant stride towards strengthening global climate action and accountability, the COP29 Presidency officially launched the Baku Global Climate Transparency Platform (BTP). This crucial initiative is designed to support the preparation and submission of Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs) by countries and to advance the overall transparency agenda under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The launch event gathered esteemed representatives from across the globe, underscoring the international community's shared commitment to robust climate reporting. Among the distinguished speakers was Dr. Sally Box, the head of the Australian delegation to the UNFCCC, who delivered a compelling address. Her participation highlighted Australia's dedication to international climate cooperation and the importance of transparent data in achieving global climate goals.

The BTP will serve as a vital tool to enhance the consistency, comparability, and completeness of climate data, enabling a more accurate assessment of progress towards the Paris Agreement targets. By providing a common platform for data sharing and capacity building, the BTP aims to empower developing countries to meet their reporting obligations effectively, fostering trust and accountability in multilateral climate processes.

This launch reinforces Azerbaijan's commitment as the incoming COP29 host to promoting a transparent, inclusive, and effective climate summit. It signifies a tangible step towards building a more resilient and sustainable future for all, by ensuring that global climate efforts are based on reliable information and shared understanding.
