Azerbaijan Joins COP Presidencies Troika to Enhance Global Climate Action

In a significant development for international climate efforts, the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), held in Dubai, announced the launch of the COP Presidencies Troika. This groundbreaking initiative forms a strategic partnership between the current COP28 Presidency (United Arab Emirates) and the incoming Presidencies of Azerbaijan (COP29) and Brazil (COP30).

The establishment of the Troika aims to foster improved cooperation and ensure greater continuity between consecutive COP Presidencies. This collaborative mechanism is designed to accelerate global climate action and maintain momentum towards achieving the ambitious 'Mission 1.5°C' target set forth in the Paris Agreement.

The Troika will serve as a crucial platform, enabling the three presidencies to collaborate closely from now until COP30. Their collective efforts will focus on raising ambition across all pillars of the Paris Agreement, ensuring that global climate policies and actions are effectively realigned with the consensus reached in the UAE, often referred to as the "UAE Consensus." This partnership underscores a shared commitment to addressing climate change through sustained and coordinated international efforts, with Azerbaijan poised to play a pivotal role in the upcoming climate negotiations and implementation phases.
