Azerbaijan's Independence Day Celebrated in Australian Parliament, Strengthening Ties and Highlighting COP29
Canberra, Australia – On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, a formal reception was held in the Dame Enid Lyons Alcove of the Australian Federal Parliament, marking Azerbaijan's Independence Day. The event was a joint initiative and organization of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Australian-Azerbaijani Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group.
The reception served multiple significant purposes: to celebrate Azerbaijan's national independence, to officially inaugurate the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, and to highlight Azerbaijan's ambitious "Green Vision" as the host country for COP29 in Baku later this year.
The event brought together esteemed Australian parliamentarians, members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora. The Co-Chairs of the Australian-Azerbaijani Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, Dr. Mike Freelander MP and Mr. Rick Wilson MP, delivered welcoming remarks, emphasizing the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering stronger bilateral relations and mutual understanding.
