Azerbaijan–Australia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group established in the Australian Federal Parliament

On the occasion of Victory Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan–Australia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group was formally established in the Australian Federal Parliament. The establishment of the Group represents an important step toward strengthening parliamentary ties and enhancing political dialogue between the two countries.

The Friendship Group is co-chaired by Mike Freelander, Chair of the Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Disability (Australian Labor Party), and Rick Wilson, Deputy Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Trade and Investment (Liberal Party), reflecting its bipartisan character.

The Group brings together senior parliamentary leaders from both chambers of the Australian Parliament, including the President of the Senate, Sue Lines, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Milton Dick, as well as other distinguished senators and members of parliament.

The primary objective of the Friendship Group is to promote closer inter-parliamentary cooperation between Azerbaijan and Australia, facilitate dialogue at the legislative level, and support collaboration on political, economic, and humanitarian issues of mutual interest.

The establishment of the Group on Azerbaijan’s Victory Day carries symbolic significance, underscoring the values of national unity, sovereignty, and the importance of expanding international partnerships, while opening new opportunities for the further development of Azerbaijan–Australia relations.
