Sydney Hosts Event Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Heydar Aliyev's Birth
A solemn event commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of
Heydar Aliyev, the founder of the modern Azerbaijani state and national
leader, was held in Sydney, Australia.
Supported by the State Committee on Diaspora Affairs and the Embassy
of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Australia, the event was organized in
collaboration with Azerbaijani diaspora organizations operating in
Australia. It was attended by Ms. Anne Stanley, Senator of the New
South Wales State Parliament, heads of diplomatic missions in Sydney,
members of the city municipal council, other public and political figures,
and Azerbaijanis living in Australia.
The event began with participants viewing a photo exhibition dedicated
to Heydar Aliyev in the theater foyer. This was followed by the playing of
the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Australia. The ceremony
included a moment of silence to honor the memory of martyrs who
sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan.
