Memorandum of Understanding signed between Azerbaijan and the United States on the establishment of a Strategic Working Group
On 8 August 2025, in Washington, D.C., the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United States of America on the establishment of a Strategic Working Group to prepare the Charter on Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
The signed Memorandum aims to further institutionalize bilateral relations, deepen political dialogue, and expand cooperation across areas of mutual interest. It provides for the creation of a structured mechanism to develop the future Charter on Strategic Partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States.
Following the signing ceremony, the Presidents held an extensive exchange of views on the prospects for bilateral cooperation, regional and international security issues, as well as efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability.
The sides emphasized the long-term strategic nature of Azerbaijan–US relations and reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation based on mutual respect, shared interests, and the principles of international law.
Discussions also addressed significant developments achieved in recent years, as well as opportunities for cooperation in the context of regional conflict resolution and broader international peace initiatives.
The signing of the Memorandum represents an important step in advancing Azerbaijan–United States relations and establishes a solid political and institutional foundation for the further development of strategic partnership between the two countries.
